Movingeast Board Member Recruitment

We are recruiting directors to help shape our strategy for the future and lead on a significant capital bid.

Background

movingeast is centre for dance, martial arts and complementary medicine situated in Stoke Newington, London. The centre was established to promote inter-disciplinary skills, and co-operation. As such, it is not only a place to train the body and acquire new skills but also a place in which to cultivate one's spirit.

movingeast is a calm and peaceful space used full time by dance organizations as a rehearsal studio, or course venue. movingeast programmes a combination of dance residencies and courses over the year to support the development of dance practice in the community from children to professionals. In the mornings the hall is used for the practice of Japanese martial arts, and there is a full programme of classes in the evenings. movingeast also works contractually providing a number of innovative education projects to local schools in the area.

Skills Needed

We are particularly interested in people with expertise in the following areas:

  • Martial arts practice or complementary medicine
  • Professional dance
  • Fundraising
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Business development

The board meets quarterly and the strategic plan may include a board away day in addition. We ask that board members commit for one year, after which their post will be reviewed.

Research and Development Residency

Movingeast and The Place in Partnership are pleased to announce the awarding of the first of 2 Research and Development Residencies:

Ben Ash will be Artist in Residence at movingeast 25th Feb. - 7th March & 17th - 21st March 2008.

The second R & D Residency will be announced shortly.

Feldenkrais Course - Mastering Gravity

6 week Awareness Through Movement® course in the Feldenkrais Method® with Campbell Edinborough.

7:30pm - 8:45pm Tuesday 13th, 27th May, 3rd, 10th, 17th 24th June.

Cost: £70 (£50 concs.)

Each of the lessons in this six week course will draw the participants’ attention to how, through generating awareness of the way in which one moves, gravity can be harnessed as a powerful support for easy, graceful movement.

The Feldenkrais Method encourages the development of self-awareness through the mindful investigation of movement patterns. The benefits of the method include: improved posture, ease of movement and sense of well-being.

Campbell has taught classes in the Feldenkrais Method at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Movingeast and in schools across London.
