Principal Aims and Benefits
"This is called the nature of
things - soft and weak overcome hard and strong" - Lao Tsu
At Tetsushinkan we emphasise flexibility and concentration.
All classes begin with stretching, strengthening and centering exercises. Our
training ranges from quiet meditative practice to vigorous martial techniques.
We maintain traditional etiquette in a friendly atmosphere. The benefits of
regular training are improved confidence, posture, co-ordination and stamina
with the development of a more focused mind and flexible body. Self-defence
develops through enhanced concentration and an understanding of a broad range of
martial techniques.
"Budo (martial arts) is a way
to win people's hearts" - Minoru Inaba
All classes may incorporate both Aikido and Kashima Shinryu
kenjutsu (sword techniques) – we do not give classes exclusively in one art
(although Friday evening classes have more of a focus on kenjutsu). Both the
Aikido and Kashima Shinryu are influenced by the teaching of Inaba
Sensei, head of the Shiseikan Dojo at the Meiji Jingu shrine in Tokyo. Through
Inaba sensei we are linked to the Aikikai, and all our Aikido dan
grades (black belts) are Aikikai
registered.
